DesktopDudez

You work. They surf.

DesktopDudez is a relaxing pixel-art surf break that lives right on your desktop.

While you work, study, or just use your computer, four different surfers take turns catching small waves and cruising across the screen. Each surfer has their own personality, and the animation is designed to be something you can casually watch without taking away from whatever you're doing.

Features

- Four unique pixel-art surfers

- Automatic waves that come and go throughout the day

- Longboarding with surfing, walking, and even hang-tens!

- Calm animated ocean water

- Optional birds and dolphins

- Lightweight desktop companion

- Designed to stay out of the way while you work

- No controls or gameplay required — just sit back and watch them surf

Purpose

I made DesktopDudez because I wanted something simple that could bring a little bit of the beach to my computer while I worked or studied.

I enjoy surfing, and I thought it would be cool to have a small surf break running in the background on my desktop. What started as an idea became an interactive project I built and developed myself.

I hope you enjoy having the surfers hanging out on your desktop as much as I enjoyed making it.

Meet the Surfers

Cameron — AKA The Guillotine

Wesley — AKA The Burner

Jackson — AKA The Ripper

Carter — AKA The Inevitable

While the surfers don't do anything different from one another, adding distinct characteristics to each makes the app feel more inviting and relaxing.

Settings

DesktopDudez includes simple settings that let you customize your desktop experience, including toggling birds and dolphins on or off.

Development

DesktopDudez was developed using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Electron, Node.js, GitHub Copilot, and pixel-art assets.

I developed this project to combine my interests in surfing, technology, and programming into something I can use every day.

Thanks for checking out DesktopDudez!
